What is PBIS?

PBIS – In August of 2013, KW Elementary started the process of becoming a PBIS School.  PBIS is an acronym for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.  A committee of teachers and the principal will attend a total of 9 days of training that will be completed in the Spring of 2015.  One of the first tasks the committee had was to create a Behavior Purpose Statement.

KW Elementary Behavior Purpose Statement - Kenyon Wanamingo Knights treat each other with Respect, take Responsibility for their learning, and strive for a Safe and positive school for all.

The “Knights in Training Day” held on our second day of school was designed to lay the groundwork for the school year from a positive behavior standpoint by teaching students the right way to handle themselves in different areas of the building.  Our big three rules - Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe were the focus of each area.  The expectations for each area are also reviewed throughout the year, but this was a fun way to begin the process and set a positive tone for the year with all our students and staff.
