Welcome to Mrs. Swanson's Kindergarten Class!

My name is Krista Swanson and I am very excited to return to KW this year!  This is my third year teaching Kindergarten at Kenyon Wanamingo. My husband Luke and I live in Wanamingo with our three children Grace (4th grade), Magnus (2nd grade) and Beck (Kindergarten).  I graduated from Winona State with my Elementary Teaching License Prek-6th grade.  I also attended Augsburg College and recieved my licensure in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) in Special Education.

Kindergarten is full of many firsts! We are building the foundations of their academic career. We will be identifying letters, numbers, shapes and will be learning sight words.  The letter people are a huge part of the Kindergarten curriculum!  We will begin by learning two letters a week.  Once we have been introduced to each letter person we will review each letter and begin reading their take home books.  These are books you can read with your child at home to reinforce sight words we have learned in class. The three ways to read a book include reading the pictures, reading the words and retelling the story to a friend.
